3D model description

Sometime probably in the 1400's it probably took some poor dudes a lifetime to learn how to mine the marble, transport it to Venice, and painstakingly chisel out this Lion statue.

Fast forward to 2011 and some guy with an iPhone can visit Venice on vacation, take a few pictures, upload it to the internet and within minutes it can be recreated in plastic miniature on my desktop on the other side of the planet!

I cleaned up this awesome scan, resized it, and made it into a solid. You'll need to turn on support!

Update: I uploaded a new version that properly sets his feet on the platform. If you tried printing it and it started too high, re-download the new stl.

3D printing settings

Printing Tips:

Using Skeinforge 35, turn on raft, set support to exterior only.

Under raft:
Support Minimum Angle (degrees): 46.0
Support Flow Rate over Operating Flow Rate (ratio): 1.5
Support Gap over Perimeter Extrusion Width (ratio): 1.0
Raft Additional Margin over Length (%): 1.2
Raft Margin (mm): 3.0
Interface Infill Density (ratio): 0.5

To prevent it from doing tons of bridge layers that result in almost 100% infill, go into Carve and turn off Infill in Direction of Bridges!

Also I used 1 extra shell and infill at 0.1
