3D model description

Dodecahedron Buckyball

The dodecahedron is the simplest buckyball with 12 regular pentagon faces. If we extrude each of the pentagon face at a taper angle that allows all of vertices to fall on the same sphere (the circumscribing sphere of the dodecahedron), we have a dodecahedral buckyball.

In this design, the pentagon's circum-radius is 30 mm, its edge length is about 35.26 mm, the dodecahedron's circum-sphere radius is about 49.42mm, the taper angle for extrusion is about -67.3 degrees. My calculation is: -90 deg + atan(( dodecaCircumedSphereRadius - dodecaInscribedSphereRadius ) / ( tan(54 deg) * edgeLen / 2 )).
