3D model description

Radical Rod
This model uses some of my existing parts, most modelling work completed in the last 3 months, using a chevy engine I modeled , the Rat Rod Pickup CAB ( now with fixed doors), wheels from different models and adding the option to use bearings which are 5mm diameter hole. I have been fascinated with the exposed rear end of particular hotrods and decided to research and model this application. The front chassis arms were also from about 3 years ago when I was toying with the step-up idea. I have modified the Bomber seat to a sleek slim design for easy printing on its side. Recently I have viewed many pictures of super charges and fuel injection setups to come up with the design on this engine. I have taken some ques from the Weiand super charger Type, now a “Vintage” model. Use of fuel injection, a drive belt and an intake complete the setup. The kicked up rear chassis rails are a must for any radical mod and finally the exposed rear mounted fuel tank sets it off to look pretty cool. I have added a piston as a gear shifter for a unique look in the cab and an external steering linkage as a “ratrod” mod.

Chassis
Drop front axle neatly fits to front chassis rails, bullet head lights fit to lock them in place, lights have slot for wires if required. Front Chassis rails fit to main chassis rails and there are two cross rails, one with gear box mounting shaft hole (take careful note of direction position, see Video though:- in the video I forgot to put them in when assembling the chassis components:( ). Front stabilizers are positioned in holes in Drop front axle and rear is screwed through main chassis rails into front chassis rail locking components together. The rear kicked up chassis rails can be positioned and screwed into place. All these parts can then be either glued while assembling or heat staked into place if required. The rear cross member can be glued, or heat staked into position.
Cab
Split into 4 for easy printing and using minimal support, glue or heat stake together. If you what the full one-piece cab it is on my “Shapeways “shop or purchased separately.
Assemble the seats and screw them into place.
Use a 3mm piece of material to locate the steering wheel.
The Cab is screwed to the chassis rails in 4 places.
Front end
The grille surround, screws to the front of the drop axle and the grill fins are pushed in from the rear, it is tight but goes in. (the bevel goes to the top)
Hubs are located and a 3mm bolt is used to locate them, steering rod is also screwed on LHS to allow movement. The steering arm to the cab is mounted use the bolt through the hub. A 5mm bolt is placed through the hole and the bearing is located on this. The wheel needs to be a push fit on the bearing.
There is also a modified drop front axle with a mounting location for a small servo to control the steering and a purpose designed steering rod.
Rear-
If bearing axle system is used, the bearings are a push fit into the axle housing and a 5mm axle used or use the standard axles and a 5 or 6mm rod can be used to push fit on the wheels, or you can come up with an alternative.

Rear end
Assemble the axle parts (slip on rear links first, position pins outward) to the diff and then locate the spring and blot together with 3 or 4mm bolts.
(you have standard or low spring to choose) then position the spring in the rear cross member and screw into place. Position tail shaft in place.
Locate the gas tank to the back of the cab and make small holes in cab and screw into place.
I have placed holes for door handles they are 3mm diameter. Glue doors handle in place.
Chev Engine and wheels have been Added
Ford flat Head engine will also fit but position before you screw the cab on.
Assemble all parts, I have placed dowel holes for location if required, glue auto box and locate to chassis rails. (simply glues to engine mounts on chassis rails).
Added new design grill that matches the slotted seats:)

Happy modelling
Chris
