3D model description

Hi,

This is my concept of wind turbine. i was inspired from this link to build my own one.

originally. My plan was to publish this design when I finished it almost but there is a challenge now. So I start to add the design to Cults now.

So, my Basic ideas was:

1. build all all parts on 200x200x180mm

2. use a Nema 17 Motor (spare of my printer) as Generator. another motor should be possible

3. storm safety

4. basic design should have a gearing

5. not too much different bolt sizes

6. less overall / single print times

7. adjustable on different locations -> wind speed

8. strong enough design

9. load a 12V battery

I tried the turbine from the link above but it doesn´t work for me well. My problem was that I have the most time less wind speed -> I think not more than 3m/s (I can´t say how much clearly, I haven’t a anemometer…). So I decided to generate my own propeller by 2 arguments. Too less wind speed and the print time for 1 propeller blade (12h+). You can see the version of this on the last picture. (3 blades with the green generator house). But in the end now. I not happy with this solution and still it doesn’t generate enough to load a 12V battery.

I made a Voltage double with after the stepper motor.

http://www.reuk.co.uk/Stepper-Motor-Voltage-Doubler-Circuit.htm

At this point, I Sayed: I create my own complete design. (this was approx. before 1 month). My basic design is almost finish now. I need to do some details. Now. I need to print and test. But this will take time. ~2 weeks up to now.

I tried to make it so much expandable and adjustable as possible.

To my design now:

1. 4 blades – can be extended up to 12 (like western mill) or maybe 2 bigger one but this is not considered by me. Angle of attack can be adjusted.

2. Adjustable gear: standard gear ratio of 1:1,7 up to 3 times. I will try with 3 times of this (i´m not an expert with gears. Pls correct my when I write something wrong)

3. The complete set with gear and motor can be completely removed for maintain or repair.

4. I made a storm regulation with a counterweight and 2 flags. Common used solution for DIY design up to 9m diameter. Hopefully it will work for my.

5. Most used bolts M4x30, Main shaft M8 threaded rod, flags rod M6, fixing diameter on the bottom 22mm

6. Diameter can be made in 950mm or 1350mm. flag distance can be adjusted acc this but is generally design for the larger diameter.

General. I used in my design a printed thread, gear, screw connection,…

The blade design is simple. A flat design is faster to print and get a smoother surface if you have a heatbed. Instead of print it vertical up with rotation.

Instructions, pls download the PDF guide.

i´m almost finished now. the Propeller is rotating. the small Nema 17 Motor generates 12V (see picture). it´s is stable. wonderfull :)

The Motor is not the best, for sure if someone find a good cheap geneator, it will be a lot better then the NEMA 17. space is enough to bring it in. holes are also prepared for Expansion of Motor and gearing.

one alternative ieda is also to use belts instead of gearings.

i have also uplaoded a Video.

in the end, i Need to thanks my father for his Support, it was a nice summer project.

best regards

Semml

Update

print is ongoing. i have created some Detail Pictures of the design and uploaded it now. i found on more weak Point and it will be updated (Fixing of the blade to the round part) - 27.06.2015

Update

print process is slowed down because of the makeitfloat challenge. but we assemblied a few components now. i have a small issue at the Moment with the noise of the gearing. i try to make a gear set.

potho added. - 02.07.2015

Update

i have uploaded a few files now because of user comments :)

this includes a stronger main blade and Support (Support is sometimes broken when thighten the bolts). Propeller and cone for it is also included. the Propeller is designed to mount on a M8 threaded rod

i hope i can finish it in time because my Printer is broken over the Weekend.

Basic instruction added - 14.07.2015

Update

Basic instruction deleted, Instruction PDF uploaded. first draft!!!

Video added.

printing is ongoing, hopefully in time :/

End - 30.07.2015

Update

it was a good and bad day today. good: i have assemblied a lot. bad: no wind for test. :/

some improvments discovered. hopefully i can print it tomorrow

new Picture uploaded with the most stuff assemblied. i will try to finish the storm Regulation tomorrow.

End - 31.07.2015

Update 1

STL Files uploaded in the zip file. (includes file structure for better understanding). the stl files wich i have uploaded thill now, are the same as in the zip file.

new set of PDF Drawing uploaded with the latest model.

DWG file of my gearing.

Update 2

Video uploaded,.

Instructions uploaded

Description modifications

End - 02.08.2015

Please download and look into the instruction PDF. i prepared a lot of Picture and guides. it is more easy to use the PDF insted to write everthing here.

thanks
