3D model description

An entry for the #XYZCHALLENGE

Did you make a New Years resolution to spend more time with your significant other, but find it difficult to ignore those pesky mobile notifications and phone calls?

Does turning your phone off give you anxiety?

GET SOME HELP!

No, not a therapist (though who knows, it may do you some good), get the "NO DISTRACTIONS!" Faraday cage box!

This lovingly crafted 3D printable box has enough space for two mobile phones - perfect for date night!

Also a great way to get your kids off their phones for dinner!

Simply print the box, line with your favorite RF shielding material, insert the inner case, and you're done! Toss in your phones and enjoy a peaceful evening with your loved one, free from the distractions of the outside world!

3D printing settings

This box is intended to be printed with a 0.4mm nozzle at 0.2mm layers.

Any material is fine, so long as it is non-conductive.

BUILD INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Print all parts

2) Line the LID and BASE with an RF shielding material. The material should wrap over the upper lip of the BASE to the outside, and should cove to the inner edges of the LID so as to make contact with each other when closed.

3) Insert the INNERBASE into the lined BASE. You can glue in place if you choose.

4) Glue the INNERLID to the inside top of the LID.

There is 0.8mm clearance between the inside walls of the BASE and the outside walls of the INNERBASE, so your RF Shielding material should be about that thickness. if it is thicker, or you require more clearance, simply shrink the INNERBASE part in your slicer.

I've had varying success using aluminum foil as the shielding material, it seems to depend on the strength of the phone's antenna, so for the best protection you may want to use legit RF shielding material as found on Amazon and other online retailers.
