clip-on Bookmarks for Paperbacks and Magazines - No relocating required as you read.

Anyone who reads paperbacks and magazines will appreciate this simple bookmark. It clips securely onto the back cover of paperbacks and magazines then uses archival ribbon to mark your page when the book/magazine is closed.

This eliminates the need to slip a bookmark in/out, put it down separate from the book while reading then reinsert it when you stop, and it cannot slip inside your book or fall out...losing your page marking.

However, this does require some archival ribbon (max. width 10mm) which is commonly used for ribbon on presents etc. This has a fabric feel to it but is very fine/thin. Not the plastic (lower cost) ribbon.

The assembly is easy but some people may find it a bit fiddly... it is however worth the effort and you will only need to do it once, as follows:

(1) Print the .stil as per the instructions. This should only take around 20 minutes. Remove the 4 parts from the Raft.

(2) Cut the required length of archival ribbon and slip it into the clip (largest) part as shown in the images provided. Make sure it is inserted fully to the end of the recess.

(3) Find the securing cap without a slot in it. The two very small pins should be inserted towards the ribbon and protruding side of the clip. Push in firmly together until the cap is all the way in at snaps into place. Refer to the images...

Note: These small pins grip and hold the ribbon. They push the ribbon up into small recesses inside the clip. On the back of the cap is a strip that acts as a lock to stop the clip pulling back out again.

(4) Follow the same process with the remaining parts to secure the base to the bookmark. However, in this case the ribbon needs to be gently fed through the slot before insertion into the base part. Again, push firmly together to secure/lock in place.

Notes: The base part is optional and not necessary but it will stop the end of the end of the ribbon fraying. In the event your clearances are too tight so the parts will not clip together uniformly increase the scale until they do. On a Replicator 2, printed as per the instructions they snap together perfectly and securely every time. The bookmarks made and used to date have stayed together well. However, it is likely a good tug on the ribbon could pull it apart. If you are at all concerned you could use a small amount of glue to make sure it never comes apart... but again this shouldn't be necessary if the parts are clipped together tightly enough (i.e. Different printers accuracy may influence this due to the fine detail in the clips)

On a Replicator 2 these print well at 0.20mm / std resolution with Raft on, 3 shells, 75% fill (to make them almost solid). No support required.

A quick and easy print that lets you create a practical thing that can be put to use every day.
