3D model description

An Infinity Clock inspired by one I found on Thingiverse

I redesigned the ring and designed the whole enclosure from scratch to be 3D printable.
I tweaked the original code a little for orientation and added animation.

Clock Animation can be viewed here - https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=474880946420867

Light Show Animation can be viewed here - https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=402592973714086

Hardware Needed:
1 meter, 60 LED WS2812B Individual Addressable RGB LED Strip (I used this one - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MG49QKD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Arduino Nano

DS1302 Real Time Clock Module for Arduino w/Battery

3 10k ohm resistors

3 Momentary Normal Open Switches (I used these - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0119FH5Z2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

1 Mirror (Enclosure was designed for one I found at Hobby Lobby specifically, 32.89cm Round Candle Holder, https://www.hobbylobby.com/Home-Decor-Frames/Candles-Fragrance/Candle-Holders/Round-Decorative-Mirror-Plate---13%22/p/41645)

1 350mm x 350mm glass, 2 mm thick (I used a photo frame replacement glass and cut it down to size. I had never cut glass before and was rather surprised at how easy it was. I used this - https://www.hobbylobby.com/Home-Decor-Frames/Frames-Photo-Albums/Hardware-Accessories/Replacement-Glass---16%22-x-20%22/p/80871895)

12 3x20mm screws

Printed Parts:
3x Quarter Ring
3x Quarter Top
4x Quarter Spacer
1x Everything Else

Assembly

  1. Snap the 4 base pieces together and glue the mirror into the circle impression.

  2. Glue the 3 Quarter Rings and the Quarter Ring with Hole to make a complete Ring.

  3. The LED strip has 5 wires on one end and 3 on the other. Clip the wires off of the end with only 3. The end with 5 should be separated into a set of 3 and a set of 2. Clip the set of 2 so you have 3 wires left (Red, Black and Green)

  4. Feed the wires from the inside of the ring to the outside and adhere the LED strip around the interior of the ring. It should fit around the length of the ring exactly.

  5. Follow the wiring diagram to connect the rest of the hardware together to make your circuit. I used a small perfboard to make it.

  6. The enclosure has holes on one side for the power cable and buttons. These holes are designed to be on the bottom left. Place the Ring on the mirror with the hole and wires at the 7:00 position. (If counting leds from the hole going counter-clockwise, the 5th led should be exactly at the 6:00 position, which is easily identifiable by the crease between the base parts.) It is also wise to plug in your circuit real quick to make sure that you have the ring in the correct orientation, so the time goes clockwise and not in reverse.

  7. With the ring in the exact position, place glue on one of the Quarter Spacers where the ring would be in contact with it (2 spots) and place in the top left corner. Do the same with the top right and bottom right corners.

  8. Tuck your arduino circuit in the remaining cavity and glue the buttons to the Base. Then place the remaining Quarter Spacer in place, without the glue this time. This allows access to the circuit if needed in order to replace the battery.

  9. Glue the numbers and symbol into place (if desired)

  10. Thoroughly clean the inside mirror and remove any dust. do the same with the glass and place on top of the spacers.

  11. Screw the Quarter Top pieces into place.

Buttons are Up, Clock Set and Down.
When not in Clock Set Mode, if the Up button is pushed, it triggers the light show animation.

3D printing settings

.2mm Layer Height
Supports only needed for the Base screw holes. Good printers won't need any at all.
