3D model description

This is an Essentials Project collaboration (follow their Instagram @madebyessentials). The Low Poly Mask was based on "Iguazu" 3D printed mask design. Check out the link below to learn about their mask:

I referenced their STL file and 3D modeled a low poly version of it. The goal was to make it easy and simple to 3D print in a short amount of time - the Low Poly Mask requires no support material but highly recomment using the brim feature to enhance build plate adhesion.

To complete the mask, you'll need the following materials and supplies (refer to photos):
- Low Poly Mask - Small, Medium, or Large version
- Gauze mask or any other cloth material that you have available.
- Elastic cord / band
- Scissor
- Tape
- Sand paper (around 150 - 250 grit)

Step 1: 3D print the mask (refer to 3D printing settings)

Step 2: If you used brim or raft support, use sandpaper to remove any sharp edges.

Step 3: Cut gauze mask or other cloth material to cover all the holes for the nose and mouth. For example, a 72 x 72mm square size was used for the Medium-sized mask (refer to photo).

Step 4: On the interior side of the mask, position the square material covering all the holes.

Step 5: Secure the square material onto the mask by using tape.

Step 6: Cut elastic cord / band to approximately 7.5" long (about 190mm) and tie each end of the cord/band around the two holes (refer to photo). Length of cord/band will differ depending on the person wearing the mask.

Step 7a: Replace the guaze or cloth material when needed.

Step 7b: Instead of replacing, reuse the guaze or cloth material by washing it with mild soap & water and then leave to dry for use the next day.

Step 8:Clean the mask with mild soap & water or spray.

Dimensions (based on measurements when placed on the build plate):

Small - Width 136 x Height 87 x Depth 67mm

Medium - W151 x H96 x D78mm

Large - W 168 x H 107 x D 86mm

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a last resort mask. These 3D printed masks are not intended to be a regular PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) or N95 mask. These 3D printed masks are not intended to replace surgical or N95 masks.

3D printing settings

The Low Poly Mask you see in the photos was printed on the Creality Ender 3 with PLA material. I used Cura for the slicer program and printed in Standard Quality.

Other settings:
- 0.2mm layer height
- 20 infill density
- 75 print speed
- Heated build plate
- Recommended to use brim feature (8mm width)
- Approximately 3 hours to print the Medium version in these settings
