Description :

Spray-suppression visor, derived from the "PFC-Headband-Light-3DPrint" project of the FabLab ULB in Brussels (link to the project at the end of this description).

This visor holder was designed to help fight Covid-19. It is both:

  • quick to print (less than 30 minutes)

  • stackable (possibility to launch series of several visors in one print)

  • low filament consumption (54g for 10 supports)

I found the initial project very interesting, but I had problems with the printing, especially with the mounting brackets. So I reworked it with a number of improvements to make it easier to print, but also faster, with less filament, and to make the visor easier to assemble.

Material needed to make the complete visor:

  • 1 transparent A4 sheet (format 21cm x 29.7cm, between 150 and 300 microns).

  • 2 rubber bands

  • 1 standard punch, for making holes in the sheet (80mm spacing, 6mm punch, ideally with a possible setting to 3x8 mode for ease of assembly)

  • And of course, this 3D printing medium

Assembly :

Then hang them on the support with the 2 hooks. The elastics keep the visor tight on the head.

Set the punch to 3x8, then punch the plastic sheet with 4 holes along one of the large edges (one stroke in one direction, one stroke in the other).

Finally, attach the sheet to the brackets provided on the visor support.

That's it, the visor is assembled and ready to wear.

I print the media with an Alfawise U30 with a standard 0.4mm nozzle.

Here are the print settings I use with Cura that work very well on this printer :

  • Layer height: 0.3 mm

  • Line width: 0.6 mm

  • Filling: 0%

  • Printing speed: 70 mm/s

  • No support

  • No raft

I advise you to start by printing the model which has only one support at first (file "Visiere_anti-projection_x_1.stl").

Then, if the model suits you, test the stacking with 3 supports to refine your printing parameters ("Visiere_anti-projection_x_3.stl" file) before being able to print massively afterwards (the models go up to 35 supports in one print, but it is possible to go beyond that).
