3D model description

I decided to make a sand reactor help remove ammonia from the tank by passing it through sand, the sand liquefies, if that is the right word and water passing through it and deposits ammonia. I placed the bottle in my refugium that I just built, I used a 2 litre coke bottle that I cut the bottom off and then cut a rectangle sort of cut so the water would not spill over the top of the bottle when exiting.
I placed the inner tube into the bottle and filled it with about 3 to 4 inches of sand (experiment to see what suits you) I did place a round piece of filter sponge at the bottom, on top of the round base but it was a bit useless keeping the sand from the bottom so I binned that idea and to be fair it works better without it, the top cover is just to keep central.

I used as a stable base : Aquarium - Brine Shrimp Hatchery (Modular)

I cut the base to fit my dimensions of the first chamber of the fuge and siliconed up the holes so it was just a printed stable base

The outer hole diameter is 16.4 mm so nice and snug on the tube and the hose was 16mm inner diameter and outer 22mm so 16/22 pipe
Principal of operation.
Water passes down the centre of the tube hits the bottom and travels up the outside of the tube through the round base through the sand and out of the bottle and continues on its way through the refugium.
The Fine floss in the bottle was the wife’s idea to catch fine particles, I am not saying it won’t work but it might, we will see

fine Floss is required between the bottom of the base and the sand to stop the sand syphoning back to the tank clogging up the lift tube
