3D model description

Important

This project is designed exclusively for the 1kg rolls of Printalot (see photos and dimensions attached)

Objectives:

  • Reuse empty filament rolls

  • Use as little material as possible

  • Fast printing

  • No screws or anything that is not printed

With those objectives in mind, the idea was to make these drawers to print in vase mode (or spiral/spiralize outer contour mode in Cura).

Print for every drawer

  • 1 Drawer in vase mode * (~1:30 hs with nozzle from 0.6 to 0.32 layer height)

  • 1 Brooch (~5min)

  • 1 Cover (~ 30 min) (optional **)

  • 1 more clip if using a cover (optional **)

*I have also included a hollow box STL that does not work in vase mode but the result is something much more robust at the cost of much more printing time

**You can skip the cover if you want or if you are going to print several and stack them, since the ones below do not require a cover. The drawer works well enough without a lid and without a top clip.

Print if you want to make a pile

  • 3 Clips

The idea is to put the clips between the drawers and between each roll (see photo). They are not the most beautiful thing in the world but it's the only thing that occurred to me that I used little material and printed fast.

Other designs use a threaded rod and caps:

Recommendations

If possible, use a 0.6 nozzle as the dimensions and tolerances are optimized for this width. Anyway **there shouldn't be any problems with 0.4 nozzle, although I haven't tried it.

The pins have very little tolerance and this is intentional, they must fit very tightly in the holes of the lid and the drawer.

Design

The design was made in Onshape and if you want you can copy and modify it. You will also be able to see the design of the whole roll.

If you use another brand (ex: Grilon3) I recommend these designs that are spectacular:
