3D model description

30 June 2022. Minor update: added missing STL ControlSurfaceL4 to the micro Vulcan files.

2 December 2021. Minor update: fixed the 'off the bed' alternate right wing 2 piece. Added two alternate fuse parts: lower fan mounts WITH FINGER GRIPS! These are printed and fit, but unflown so far.

27 September 2021. Build guide now updated, no major changes to the DJDesigns versions, just addition of the refuelling probe and a battery tray support. Lots of additional parts from other designers, including a complete LW-PLA version with fixed landing gear!

16 March 2021. Now with a bonus 1/2 size pusher version for LW-PLA. Note the build guide does not cover this yet - you will be on your own, but it's pretty much as per the 50mm EDF process.

14 Jan 2021. v2.2 has additional parts donated by others, the most significant being a fin STL and Rudder option! Thanks ExtremeSports from RCGroups. There are many other tweaks awaiting your testing like G-codes for LW-PLA and an EDF cover with a bit more room for the wires. Please note though that we cannot support these additions as easily as the base STLs. Be patient!

12 Dec 2020. This is v2.1 now with Prusa gcodes and factory files kindly supplied by Rupert80.

27 Nov, We have released v2.0 which has the Fuse pieces and the wing attachment plates slightly modified to move the wings forward a little. There are a few other minor improvements too.
1. There are 'cut here' marks on most pieces that need them.
2. A better sliced alternate nose which should make it much easier to align if you don't have enough z to print as one piece.
3. The nose joiner piece is now based on DDs great idea of having a bit of the canopy included to act as a simple catch.
4. The top motor mount is now designed in two parts to allow the EDF to ESC connectors to be easily connected and disconnected.

This is a world first as far as we know!
Designed from scratch to be a scale, single EDF park-flier and it flies really well - see videos below.

Now you can print and fly one too.
UPDATED with Fin STLs and DXF (thanks to birdofplay), and an option for servo wire conduits thanks to DirtyDee (DD Modified Vulkan Files.zip in the download package). Thanks to SimonDR616 for finger grip STLs to help with hand-launching.

3D printing settings

Printing is straightforward if your printer has been set up correctly. If you have not done any thin-wall printing before, you should research that before jumping straight into printing this design.

You will need to print the nose section in LW-PLA for the EDF version, but for PSS, a regular PLA part is fine.

Almost all printed pieces should have two solid bottom layers and one perimeter. The exceptions to this are: the wing mounts, the nose joiner and the nose itself. The nose joiner and the nose are single perimeter with no solid layers and the wing mounts should be printed with two solid bottom layers then with 50% infill. A conventional 0.4 mm nozzle was used to give wall thicknesses around 0.4 mm.

A process to give two perimeters to the top 1 mm of some parts may assist with gluing; I’ve left that to your judgment.

The zip archive contains all the STLs needed, but you can choose different versions of parts to print, depending on your available build volume. Minimum build volume is 200 x 200 x 220 mm. The included PDF build guide makes everything clear.
