PSU relay module housing for Pi Octoprint
I have a Tax 6 with enclosure + LED lighting connected to a Raspberry Pi running Octopi/Octoprint. The relay controls power for both the Taz 6 and enclosure lighting. For my Ultimaker 2+ with its built-in lighting, the single channel relay only controls power to the printer.
This is two variations of the enclosure, a smaller enclosure for single-channel relay module and a larger enclosure for a relay module plus and 120-12v LED powersupply.
I followed this tutorial here:
Turn Your 3D Printer On/off Using Octoprint
NOTE: The tutorial specifies using a 5v GPIO pin for power, but for this relay I use the 3.3v GPIO pin as I found 5v is too much and the relay won’t work as expected.
The LED PSU is connected to the 120v input, after passing thru the relay so it turns on and off with the Printer, no need for an extra relay, or power socket!
The relay module is the 5v variation that can be bought at:
AMAZON: 5v Relay Module for Arduino
EBAY: 5v Arduino One 1 Channel Relay - This is the two I bought
ALIEXPRESS: low level relay module
The relay has some markings in Chinese:
The characters on the left connection, 常开 (cháng kāi), mean "normally open"
The characters in the middle, 公共端 (gōnggòng duān) mean "common"
The characters on the right, 常闭 (cháng bì), mean "normally closed"
For the LED PSU:
The power cables I used have 18 gauge wire, so I used 18 gauge wire to patch between the cable and the LED PSU.
This is the connector I used to tap into the negative (white) wire:
AMAZON: T-Tap Electrical Crimp Connectors
This is the connectors I used to connect the wire to the GPIO pins on the Pi and relay:
