3D model description

Here's another ice lantern mold, this time an amethyst crystal inspired by Sniff (Nipsu) from the Moomins!

Creating one is easy:

  1. Print the mold and fill it with cold water. Use water colors as dye
  2. Let it freeze almost completely (outside or in the freezer)
  3. Remove the lantern from the mold
  4. You can place a candle behind it to make it shimmer during cold winter nights!

A few points to consider:

Using vase mode and a larger nozzle or extrusion width (0,8mm and up) is recommended to achieve water tight mold with a decent print time (or just print slightly scaled down!)
Don't freeze it completely solid as you risk breaking the mold as the ice expands too much.
You can use hot water to heat the mold and better separate them.

3D printing settings

Vase mode, big nozzle and no cooling recommended
