3D model description

This is a replacement magnetic blade guard for Fiskars rotary cutter rulers. The original part contains a bushing which is molded into the plastic. When the bearing wears out you have to buy a new cutter.

This is a replacement part. You also need a bushing and a magnet. The original bushing is an odd size that you can't easily buy. Original Fiskars blades have a 5/16" hole and the cheap clones have an 8mm hole. This is a difference of only 0.05mm but it means that Fiskars blades won't fit on an 8mm bushing. The bushing itself has to fit over a 5mm shaft so to use original Fiskars blades you need a bushing with mixed imperial and metric sizes. Luckily it does not cost much to have one custom made - you can find people on Ebay with the right tools who will do it for a few pounds/dollars. Alternatively you can use a standard size bushing and only use clone blades.

I have uploaded two versions of the handle as STLs:

  • handle-5-16.stl for bushing with ID: 5mm, OD: 5/16", height: 6mm (custom size)
  • handle-8mm.stl for bushing with ID: 5mm, OD: 8mm, height: 5mm (AM050805)

Both handles also need a round neodymium magnet: 6mm diameter x 4mm height.

I have also included a couple of tools which can help with inserting and removing the bushing and magnet.

The OpenSCAD source of the part is also included. You may need to tweak the sizes depending on your printer's tolerances. The variables to tweak are documented at the top of the file.
