ULTRA MAGNUS on Printables

Convert your Anet A8 Plus to a big Bear.

What is Ultra Magnus? The Ultra Magnus upgrade aims to take the, very affordable, Anet A8 Plus and put it on-par with the Bear Upgrade for the Prusa Mk3 printers. It is the big brother to the Mega Tron printer that was designed in partnership with Fugatech 3D Printing found here: Mega Tron Thingiverse Page (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4568468). You will be able to see Shane convert his Anet A8 Plus to Ultra Magnus on his YouTube channel: Fugatech3D Printing.

Instructions and options will continue to be updated as testing continues. Feel free to ask questions and make suggestions.

Disclaimer: Extra 2020 extrusion is needed for this upgrade. You will need 4 pieces of 2020 extrusion, one for each corner. They can be anywhere from 60 to 100 mm in length. Without them, the Bear extruder will not reach the bed. Also, depending on which option you choose below, you may need to cut down some of your linear rods (FYI a hack saw won't cut it... pun intended).

Parts you will need

  • This upgrade is designed to use the Bear Extruder found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4362586 (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4362586)
  • Extra 2020 Extrusion [See disclaimer above]
  • 2 each: M5 x 50mm socket head screws, M5 washers, M5 nuts for Y tensioner
  • Other assorted M3, M4, M5 screws, nuts and T nuts.
  • If you want a better Y belt holder: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3148068 (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3148068)

Option 1: Full Bear Upgrade X Axis

This is the full Ultra Magnus build. You will need to print most of the Parts included in this page's download as well as the Extruder from the Bear X Axis upgrade linked above.

You will need to swap your Z and X rods, but will not need to cut them.

Blind joints and T nuts can be used to attach the 2020 frame additions to the corners.

Option 2: Half upgrade

If you want to keep your Z motor/rod mounts and all Y axis mounts, this is for you. You will need to print the Anet to Bear X ends found here: Am8 Bear Extruder X Ends. This is a remix of the the Bear X axis ends. You will then be able to use the Bear Extruder parts.

Option 3: Minimal upgrade

This option is the quickest way to upgrade your A8 Plus to a Bear extruder. You will only need to change one part, my Anet Bear adapter. You can them mount the rest of the Bear Extruder parts to (found below). But let's be honest, this is not why you came to this page.

Power Supply

Included are mounts for both the stock power supply and a MeanWell RSP-320-24
I know how you guys love your MeanWells.
