Keep the joints of two-piece pool cues mint and unchipped with these 3d-printed joint protectors. Joint protectors sold by cue manufacturers usually cost between $10 and $20 per set. At only $1.99, these 3d-printed protectors offer a much more cost-effective alternative.
These joint protectors are for 3/8x10 pool cues (modified and non-modified threads). Both joint protectors for butts and shafts are included and easy to print. View the included pictures for assembly instruction (rather straight forward)!
In the past, I have stripped out threads using metal joint protectors (~$200 mistake). With these 3d-printed protectors, the plastic will give out far before the wooden threads. That being said, these threads are more than strong enough to handle normal wear and tear.
Print both joint protectors upside-down with the pin/opening pointing upward. This orientation allows the joint protectors to print without support, and to be printed at a variety of print settings. I have had best luck printing the female joint protector at 100%-102% scale. This allows a little more slack in the threads. If you have issues with the male joint protector being too tight, print it at 100%-98% scale. The following settings are what is recommended (Creality Ender 3 Pro).
Layer Height: 0.2mm
Infill: >50%
Outer Walls: 5
Top/Bottom Layers: 5
Speed: <50mm/s for better quality
Female Scale: 101%
Male Scale: 99%
Printing with >50% infill or more outer walls will result in a heavier and more solid feel. This also improves the thread strength and durability. Please comment and leave pictures of the print along with print settings.
