Playing the introductory game of chess

Installation of the chessboard and its conventions :

Place the chessboard between the two players. The left corner in front of the player must be a black square.

At the beginning of the game, when placing the pieces, the queen is always placed on a square of its colour.

Moving parts

The king, queen, rook and knight each have their own way of moving on the chessboard.

The king moves in all directions horizontally, vertically and diagonally, but only one square.

The queen moves one or more squares in a straight line in all directions: diagonally, horizontally and vertically. It cannot jump over a piece in its path.

The tower moves one or more squares in a straight line in two directions: horizontally and vertically. On its way it cannot jump over a piece.

The bishop moves one or more squares in a straight line only diagonally. It cannot jump over a piece in its path.

The knight moves two squares: one square horizontally or vertically followed by one square diagonally away from his initial position. He may jump over a piece in his path.

Play:

1) Players draw by lot their army color (coin toss or blind draw of one of the chess pieces previously placed in a bag).

2) By a chess game convention, the player who has White starts (for coloured games, the player who has White starts the game).

Different rules are possible to play with the 16 squares initiation chessboard, in any case the players agree to play with the same 4 pieces, both armies must have the same strength. (The presence of the king and/or the queen is not obligatory).

3.1 The pieces are placed on the first line of the chessboard. Players move one piece of their army in turn according to the movement mode of the chosen piece. The player may take a piece from his opponent if it occupies the square, or the player may move his own piece. The captured piece is removed from the game. The first player who has no more pieces on the board has lost the game.

3.2 Players take turns placing the 4 pieces of their army one by one on the chessboard, when all the pieces are set up the battle begins the players take turns moving one of their pieces as in the previous rule in 3.1.

Note: in this variant of the chess game the notion of "checkmate" does not exist. If one wishes to approach this notion it is enough to stop the game as soon as the king is taken. The player who has taken his opponent's king is the winner of the game.
