3D model description

A system for hanging filament spools above or below an HDX wire shelf.

Features

  • Wells for HDX shelving wire rungs
  • Reversible usage; can sit on shelf rungs or hang from them
  • Reversible orientation allows spools to be set parallel or perpendicular to the shelving level
  • Holes for adjustable dowel levels
  • Holes for ziptie reinforcement
  • Optional dowel endcaps and spacers

Notes

  • The wells in the model for the rungs are spaced for the first inside pair on either side. For whatever reason, the spacing between the first two rungs is different from the rest in between.
  • You will also need a pipe or dowel of desired length and ~18mm in diameter
  • When mounting from the top of a shelf upwards:
    • you will definitely want to take advantage of the zip ties for stability
    • check to ensure sure the filament in the filament wheel is not touching the wire frame, as the clearance is quite close
  • If using the 90ΒΊ offset hanging down, make sure the filament wheel is not touching the lip of the shelf frame, as that clearance is quite close

Improvements that could be made to the model

(notes to self if I ever return to this)

  • use just the circle cutouts; the notch for convenient dowel insertion/removal doesn't feel worth the lessened strength and fewer options at the end notches.
  • widen the rung wells to accommodate different placements on the shelf.
  • increase the clearance between the filament spool and the shelf when mounting above or below at the 90ΒΊ offset.

Rafts:
No

Supports:
Yes

Resolution:
0.3mm

Infill:
25%

Filament material:
PLA

Notes:

Be sure you print with the back facing down for most efficient support printing and extra strength against the force of gravity (if your layers are parallel to the ground, the weight of your dowel and filament can add stress to layer adhesion, risking catastrophic de-lamination).

You might be able to print without supports, but I ended up not chancing it.
