3D model description

This test train is designed to help reduce plastic waste!

Testprints are a huge part of the plastic waste created by 3D printers. The purpose of this train is to create something reuseable while testing your printing parameters, instead of creating a big pile of trash and having one small object to display on your shelf.

Each part oft the test train is made to either test many or one specific parameter and to be used as a toy afterwards (the Train fits common wooden toy railways). Each part can be used even when the print fails, so no waste will be created (in case of failure just break of failed parts).

The locomotive (Tim's Test Train.stl) is made to work as a benchmark and you can check many common printing characteristics like overhangs, tolerances, warping, infill quality, wall quality, ringing, roundness, detail quality, bridging and many more just by printing this one part.
All other waggons can be connected to the locomotive and other waggons via a small coupling element.

I have developed this test train in a projekt as part of my mechanical engineering studies at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (Germany) under the supervision of my product development Professor Prof. Dr.-Ing. D. Großkreutz and senior researcher B.Eng. J. Lauth, which I whould like to thank both at this point for their professional support.

I hope you like my design and start to reduce your plastic waste!

If you have any questions or design suggestions, feel free to contact me or design your own waggon. For this purpose I have included a "make your own waggon" version, which you can use to cerate your own design. (Please take the creative commons license into account, when uploading your own design.)

Please keep in mind that the toughness and quality of the printed models depends on the type and quality of the used 3d-printer and the used material. Children may be able to brake off small parts and swallow them! Please consider that when handing your printed parts to children. (Of course the test train can be played with by grown ups too :D)

3D printing settings

All Models should be printed without supports and can be used to calibrate any type of 3D-printer! The Material just has to be flexible enough to put on the wheels (works fine with most FFF- and MSLA-/DLP-Printers).
