3D model description

The Taranis Q X7 requires a smaller diameter gimbal guard than it's popular partner, the X9D. Unlike some other gimbal guards, these are not designed to be a substitute for a transmitter case as that would still leave your switches unprotected. Instead, they:
-Protect gimbals from crushing within the transmitter case
-Keep your transmitter case and foam in good condition by preventing sharp sticks from rubbing
-Preserve gimbal springs by maintaining a neutral stick position during transport

We understand that there are a lot of versions of these gimbal protectors listed here and hopefully this will help explain which one is right for you! There are gimbal protectors for two gimbal types: stock gimbals and M7 hall gimbals. If you bought a QX7S radio then you have M7 hall gimbals and if you bought a standard QX7 radio and haven't upgraded, you have stock gimbals. On to stick diameter. There are three different options for stick diameter: stock diameter (8.5mm), lotus (12mm and P on Banggood), and grand lotus (15mm and C on Banggood). The lotus and grand lotus gimbal protectors are for custom sticks of a larger diameter. If you haven't changed the sticks on your taranis, then you have stock sticks. If you have changed your transmitter's sticks, choose your stick fitting accordingly. Lastly there are two height options: with spacers and without spacers. If you haven't removed the 4mm spacers on your sticks, you have with spacers. If you like your sticks a bit lower and have removed the spacers under your stick heads, then you have gimbals without spacers. Hopefully that made things clear! If not, leave us a comment and we'll try to respond within a few hours!

If you're looking for an easy remix, simply make a copy of our public Onshape document.

If you don't own a 3D printer, we also have listed these on eBay!.

Update 1: Added custom M7 hall gimbal protectors optimized to fit upgraded M7 hall gimbals and the Q X7S transmitter.

Update 2: Added M7 hall gimbal protectors with extra large 15mm holes for the use of modded sticks such as the Grand Lotus (C on Banggood).

Update 3: Major update! Added M7 hall fittings for 12mm sticks such as the Lotus (P on Banggood) We also added gimbal protectors to support 15mm and 12mm sticks with the stock gimbals! Lastly, we added versions of both the stock and M7 the gimbal protectors which are slightly shorter by 4mm if you decide not to use the spacers which come with your sticks.

Update 4: Modified all versions of stock gimbal protectors to have a greater surface area for easier printing as well as use less fillament and look cleaner.
