3D model description

Hi all,

(welcome to my first design of thingiverse)

if you are like me and are running out of 3.5" slots and heating the disks in your PC that is upcycled to a server then this is the design for you.

This design is a recreation of a 3.5" to 5.25" adapter that I got with one of my computer cases. It provides great spacing for air cooling if you mount more than one HDD verticallly and is as-open-air-flow-as-I-could-get-it (altough I admit that it takes a bit more time to print because of the hex holes at the bottom).

The fit is made so that it will slide directly into your 5.25" bay and stand on any regular supports within the case. The holes for screws it in all fit perfectly (I've mounter four of them in my server).

The print might seem a little flimsy at the begining but once you mount the HDD in it it's as stury as a rock! Of course you will need additional M3 mounting screws to mount the disk, but if you are running out of mounting space I assume you are enough of a geek (like me) to have them lying around ;). Of course don't forget to run the screws through the print prior to mounting the HDD, for tapping reasons.

Since this is a rarely visible part the print settings can be rough with minimal infill due to narrow vertical structures. The number of top/bottom layers can also be kept reasonalby low (I've printed mine with just 3 layers).

Hope you find this design usefull and ... happy printing and computing.

P.S.: cudos to my brother (who is much more experinced in SolidWorks than I'll ever be) for helping me with the details of modelling.
