Project description for the competition "I make my reel".

Named "Ecological modular reel", the project aims at the optimization of materials, i.e. an ecological concept. Based on this premise, three fundamental criteria have been prioritised:

1 modular criterion: The reel has been divided into small modules which are assembled together without the need for adhesives, and in case of breakage, the necessary parts can be replaced. On the other hand, each module requires very little material and allows the use of small fractions of surplus filament.

2 structural criterion: The modules are arranged in such a way that the contours work in the direction of the stresses, thus avoiding layer brittleness.

3 plural criterion: as it is subdivided into small modules, no one is excluded from being able to print their reel. At the same time, as it has such a small layer surface, it can be printed on ABS or HIPS without any problems.

In terms of design

It consists of 2 assembly sets.

The Base assembly, consisting of the L-modules, the compression and traction rings, and the railings.

And the Cover assembly, consisting of the Eiffel modules and the railing modules.

The guardrail modules have holes every 60° to retain the end of the reel once the reel is no longer in use.

The sockets

The base assembly is held together by the compression rings (at the ends, contained by the ratchet system) and the central traction ring, which exerts the opposite effort, all this is accompanied by the rail socket (socket limiting three degrees of freedom of movement).

The cover assembly is held together by the Eiffel modules, with a jigsaw type fitting, and in turn is accompanied by the railing fitting.

Finally, once the sets are assembled, the sealed roll is placed in the "Base" set, which is finally retained by the "Cover" set, through the ratchet system.

Data of each module:

1-Module L: dimensions 97mm x 85mm x 8mm, volume 14,9cm³, filament 2,9m (quantity 6).

2-Module Compression Ring: measures 45mm diameter x 20mm long, volume 10,4cm³, filament 2,4m (quantity 2).

3-Traction Ring Module: measures diameter 69mm x 20mm long, volume 17cm³, filament 4,2m (quantity 1)

4-Module Railing: measures 110mm x 27mm x 8mm, volume 5,17cm³, filament 2,65m (quantity 12).

5-Module Eiffel: measures 79mm x 55mm x 8mm, volume 11cm³, filament 1,9m (quantity 6)

The calculation of the filament is based on the following parameters

Nozzle 0,4mm

Layer height 0,15mm

Lower and upper wall 0,6mm

Two perimeter contours of 0,4mm

Filling 19%

All modules are designed so that they can be printed stacked, attached STL file with the total of the pieces, this file is inscribed in a volume of 129mm x124mm x 50mm.
