Emir Dhar is highly skilled Space Pilot working for the largest space exploration company on Earth - Mountain Stronghold Corp. It's 150 years in the future and space exploration is a commerical enterprise. Pioneer teams are sent out to habitable planets to conduct in person research of the natural resources, and to set up working settlements for colonists to arrive. Many planets are simply mined for profit and others are colonised - space is now big business!
For his latest mission, Emir has found himself with co-pilot Charlotte and the Everest Pioneer Team on Planet 579a in the Milky Way Galaxy, named Aether. The planet Aether has rich biodiversity, an acceptable atmosphere for humans and slightly higher gravity than Earth. It's his job to transport the team and their equipment down to the planet's surface from the mothership in orbit by piloting the behemoth Helikon, a state of the art Orbital Lander.
