3D model description

Update Oct 26,2022. Added two additional lightbulb mounts for different lightbulb cords. V3.2.2 is for standard lightbulb cords purchasable from Amazon (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07J657TJF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). V4 is for the IKEA Strala lightbulb cord that uses E12 Chandelier lightbulbs (https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/strala-cord-set-white-90371505/).

This is a very large moon lamp that can be used as either an accent lamp sitting in an abstract base/holder on a table, or can be hung from the ceiling as a ceiling light. It is illuminated with a LED bulb (recommend 60W for accent lamp, and up to 100W for ceiling light). Do not use traditional incandescent bulbs as they will cause the PLA to soften and possibly melt! Overall dimension of the moon is 210mm in diameter. I designed the mounting clip around the Hemma light socket cable from Ikea. It comes with a long cable that is sufficient to route along a roof or wall down to an outlet.

There are two moon STL's - one is labelled MoonLitho_UpsideDown and is intended to be used for ceiling lights where the moon will be hung inverted. STL called Ikea Lightbulb Socket is the mount for the Ikea Hemma light and has 4 clips that simply click into the base of the moon.

3 identical pieces of the Wire Frame Cube Holder are required to build the abstract base. Simply click the pieces together and hold with a dab of glue if required.

A Cable Wall clip model is provided to hold the cable against the roof or wall with a couple finishing nails if required.

3D printing settings

Printed in white PLA. Moon globe should be printed in 100% infill to get the proper lithophane effect. I used a brim to increase bed adhesion, but may not be required. Layer height of .16mm on an Ender 3 resulted in 55 hours of printing time! Using a .6mm nozzle and a .2mm layer height will reduce print time to approx 2 days and 12 hours

Print lightbulb socket mount with lots of perimeters (5-6) so that cone section is at 100% infill. If you print at 2-3 perimeters with infill there is a possibility of a surface depression forming resulting in poor surface finish.

Wireframe can be printed at any infill (around 15-20%). Small nubs on wireframe cube pieces should be 100% infill to avoid snapping off.
