JWizard’s Lazy Susan/Spice Rack/Display/Work Table – 4/24/21

Designed by JWizard

Thank you for choosing JWizard’s Lazy Susan/Spice Rack/Display/Work Table!

Our motivation to create this lazy susan/spice rack/display/Work table is that we actually need several of these in various sizes and configurations throughout our home. We could not find a spice rack that would fit in our closet. This has so many uses we had a hard time naming it! From our kitchen cabinet to store our spices, to our kitchen table as a lazy susan, for displaying a piece of artwork and finally serving as a workbench for the projects we are working on! Print exactly the pieces you need in the size you want for the function you desire. You can easily control the spinning of the top(s) by using one of the extruding grips that you will find around the top(s).

You can choose to create the tops with and without borders. Without using borders, you are offered a thin and thick options. Be consistent when using the thick or thin option unless you have a specific reason for doing otherwise. All of this flexibility gives you many uses.

If you were going to create a three layer spice rack, these are the pieces you would need to print:

(top layer)
top with border
washer
tall extension

(middle layer)
inner top with border
washer
tall extension

(bottom layer)
inner top with border
washer
short base

In Summary to create your three layer spice rack you need the quantities of the piece below:

1 short base
2 inner tops with border
1 top with border
2 tall extensions
3 washers

The following Files are included:

tall extension.stl (if you are creating a spice rack, for spices to fit under the extension, make rod length 12.4cm from base of the inner top. This was measured using a standard ruler.)

short base.stl
tall base.stl
washer.stl

(with border pieces)
top with border.stl
inner top with border.stl

(without border pieces)
thin top without border.stl
thick top without border.stl
inner thin top without border.stl
inner thick top without border.stl

Materials used to create model in photos:

eSun Fire Engine Red PLA
eSun Brown PLA
Overture Matte White PLA

Idea’s:

Take the measurements of the rack you need to build. Then scale the x,y and z accesses accordingly to meet your objective. You can use the legend on the print bed to see what the size of the model is as you scale it. You should keep the x and y scales at the same value. You have more liberty to change the z scale if you want a shorter or taller model. If getting additional height is your objective, all you need to do is z-scale the tall extension. Be consistent with your scaling so that everything fits together properly. If your model will use borders, typically you will need only the tops and inner tops with borders. If your model will not use borders then typically you will only use the tops and inner tops without borders. The tops and inner tops without borders come in two sizes. There is a thin and thick top and inner tops without borders.

It might be a good idea to put some felt pad on the bottom of the model so that it does not move as you turn the tops. This also protects the surface where you will use the model.

Occasionally you may have to move your spice rack. Remember to grab it from the bottom because due to the fact that the pieces are not locked together because of the spinning tops.

Do not warp your washers. Keep them flat. If they are not flat you may be able straighten out by hand. It might be best to remove them from the print bed with a spackle knife.

What filament to use with your model? If your model will be in a closet the color may not matter much. If you are creating a lazy susan to be used on a table, you may wish to use a shiny filament.

Conclusion:
