Metropolitan Life Tower

Metropolitan Life Tower 3D print model

Description

The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Tower, known also as the Metropolitan Life South Building or simply the Met Life Tower, is a 700ft (213m) tall skyscraper in New York City. Completed in 1913, the building is among the oldest major skyscrapers in the city. Once the tallest building in the world, the Met Life Building still towers over its immediate surroundings, which most notably includes the world-famous Madison Square Park. The tower was designed by Napoleon LeBrun & Sons as a modern adaptation of Venice's St Mark's Campanile. Its height, classic design, large clockface, and brilliant lighting at night have made this building among New York City's most enduring landmarks.

NOTES:

  • In 1964, the Renaissance-Revival ornamentation was largely removed from the tower, replacing it with flat limestone as a modernization renovation. This model aims to recreate the building as it was designed with all its original ornamentation.
  • A model of this building was first uploaded in 2019. A new, much improved version of the model was created from scratch in 2022
