3D model description

###This is an outdated prototype!

###The lastest version (v4.0) is uploaded to Myminifactory as well as v2.0. Please follow me there as I will slowly migrate to myminifactory!

###Latest version (v4.0): https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-169440

This is my go at a tally counter! I could have made it A LOT less complicated, but I decided to over-engineer the heck out of it.

Originally designed as a "life counter" to the card game "Magic the Gathering", it has the same dimenstions as a magic-card so you can store it with your favorite deck in its deckbox.

You can either count by pressing the plus and minus - buttons, or you can use the crank to set the number.

Follow the link to see the counter in use:

###READ BEFORE PRINTING!###
* First of all, this is a non-commercial print, this means you are not allowed to sell files or prints of this model. Not that I neccearily would have anything against it, but it would be nice not to find this for sale on etsy...

####PRINT SETTINGS
1. Print all components in the orientation they come in to minimize support and maximize part strength.
2. All components are designed to be printed in PLA. It isn't required, but if you print eg. the buttons or ratchet pins in ABS or PETG, the counter might not work as intended due to the difference in material properties.
3. Support materals are only required on "0-Digit wheel", "Plus Button cap", "Minus Button cap", "Case" and "Lid"
4. The "digit wheels" are desined to be layered with two different filament colors, it isn't required but it makes the digits "pop" a lot more.

####NON-PRINTED PARTS
- This project needs two additional springs, I used two unspecified 9x35 mm springs I had at home, unfortunately it is a bit of trial and error to find a strong enough spring. I have added 1mm spring tensioners to the project that you can use to pre-tenstion/tune your own springs. These goes in the bottom of the spring-slot in the case.

  • You will need 4x m3 nuts and 4x m3x12 screws for this project. If you live in 'murica and can't find metric fasteners, I guess you can either modify the model to use imperial-fasteners or simply glue the lid to the case. Just be careful not to glue together parts that are supposed to be moving :)

####ASSEMBLY
- Watch the video below on how to assemble the counter.
Two things that aren't shown in the video are the assembly of the button-caps and nut caps.

  • Make sure "+ cap" goes to the left button and the "- cap" goes to the right button. if the press fit isn't good enough, use a dab of super glue.

  • Fully assemble the counter before inserting the nut-caps, they are there to hide the ugly nuts and should be flush to the case back. I woudn't recommend using super glue on the nut caps since they should have a snug press fit and you only risk getting glue on the nut threads.
