3D model description

Model details

Based on the real world Ajax Armoured Fighting Vehicle, this vehicle consists of a common chassis and interchangeable mission modules. This is essentially a tracked version of my Boxer IFV. Just like the real Boxer, having interchangeable mission modules allows for cost savings due to the fact that you don't need to print an entire vehicle out for every role. Simply print enough hulls that you expect you would need at any one time, and enough of each module and swap out as needed.Β

Modularity and magnets

The vehicle is built around the use of 2mm*1mm rare earth magnets. Even the heaviest section (the mission module) can be securely held in place and can stand up to a good shake upside down without falling off. This is of course assuming that you print it hollowed out, I would not recommend doing this test with a lump of solid resin....

I would recommend inserting the magnets for the track guards before attacking the tracks themselves. You can insert them after the tracks have been glued in with the help of a thin metal tool such as a file, although it is a little trickier. You will notice an overabundance of magnet slots for the track guards, the reason for this is that I hope to produce an addon armour module at a later date, and this will be a lot bulkier (and heavier) than the current side skirts. The additional holes are to enable compatibility with this soon to be designed component.

Files

This pack contains files for the Ajax chassis, tracks, removable track guards, 2 mission modules, dozer blade, 11x hull-mounted weapon plates (1 blank, 10 with weapons), and both pintle and RWS (remote weapon system) Heavy Stubber and Storm Bolter.Β

Mission modules

This base pack contains the two basic mission modules for the set; the Infantry Carrier, and the Highback modules. This will allow proxy of the Taurox. Further mission module packs are available allowing other vehicles to be proxied. When the project is complete the Ajax and Boxer will both have options available to proxy every single tracked IG vehicle that is available in the current codex -other than the supper heavies.

All of the mission modules are compatible with both the Ajax and Boxer hulls, as are the hull weapons, dozer blade, and RWS/pintle weapons.

Custom requests

Like the model but don't want as many rivets? Have a different type of weapon that you would like to see included? Want some specific details added to the model? Feel free to PM me. The design itself is highly modular and it is very easy for me to remove individual parts - there are literally hundreds of individual rivets that can each be toggled on or off as needed for example.

I am happy to design small custom parts for the model and provide them free of charge. If your request is for something a bit larger than that then please ask about it anyway. I may be happy to do it just to try out some new design tools.
