3D model description

Wall mount designed for the Kindle Fire HD8, 10th Generation released in 2020. Primarily intended as a dashboard for home automation systems such as Home Assistant.

Designed to use a readily available 90 degree USB-C Cable (UGREEN) and hide the cable from view.

A spacer allows the tablet to 'float' away from the wall, while allowing the USB cable to enter a wall box.

Mounting holes are provided for direct attachment to both UK (60mm hole spacing) and US (83.34mm hole spacing) single back boxes with additional mounting holes for screwing directly to a wall if needed.

There is also an extension to the power button, allowing the tablet to be shut down/restarted while in the mount.

PRINT SIZE - IMPORTANT!
The front frame requires a print bed that is 231mm wide.
Please ensure you can print this size before buying the STLs!

I have printed this design on an Ender 3 without issue.
Also tested on an Ender 5 but I did have to change the maximum bed size via a firmware modification - I am using TH3D Unified Firmware so you may not have to make this change.

CHECK YOUR PRINTABLE AREA BEFORE BUYING - WE WILL NOT PROVIDE REFUNDS IF THIS DESIGN IS TOO BIG FOR YOUR PRINTER - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

PERSONAL USE ONLY!
Files are provided for personal use only. Sharing the files or selling printed versions is strictly prohibited without express permission.

UPDATE - 28th July 2023
Added 'reduced tolerance' versions of the front and rear frame. The originals are ever so slightly loose when printed on Bambu Lab printers. These versions improve the fit of the tablet and front frame. May also be useful for printers with linear advance enabled.

3D printing settings

All files are oriented in their intended placement. Supports are not required anywhere.
Recommended settings for a 0.4mm nozzle:

Spacer and Wall Plate

  • Layer Height: 0.28
  • Top and Bottom Layers: 4
  • Walls/Perimeters: 3
  • Infill: 20%

Front Frame

  • Layer Height: 0.2mm
  • Top and Bottom Layers: 4
  • Walls/Perimeters: 3
  • Infill: 20%
  • Print front face down on a Glass or PEI bed for the very best results. Make sure your bed tramming (levelling) is 100% spot on!

Power Switch

  • Layer Height: 0.12mm (you want this as smooth as possible!)
  • Top and Bottom Layers: 5
  • Walls/Perimeters: 5
  • Infill: Doesn't matter - the walls will make it solid.
  • This is a small part so you may want to print it on a raft or use a few lines of brim (you will need to clean those off carefully).

Post Processing

Depending on how well your printer and profiles are set up, you may need to trim/sand the wall plate and frame where the power button resides. It obviously needs to travel smoothly and not get stuck.

Marks On Your Tablet

The wall frame WILL create marks on the edge of your tablet. If this bothers you, I would suggest putting some thin tape between the wall plate clips and the edge of the table.
