3D model description

don't throw out those chiped beds
just use the other side

i have looked everywhere on how to repair chiped beds i have used all kinds of glues to fill in the holes but this does not last for verry long

i have considered the glass beading that melts in the oven and filling chips and putting in the oven to melt i cant think of what it is called but if you do any kind of jewlery you will know what i am talking about have not tried this i think it will work but i wanted to try this other process first as this way you after seperating the glass from the element you can now just start buying the glass only and also are able to do other ideas like the beading stuff

i have known about this for some time but was afraid to try it thinking that i might damage the heat element so i have not thrown them out and have about 6 or 7 beds with chiped plates

trust me when i say the heat elament is pretty tough and can take a lot of working

remove the glass and elament by cutting the wires about 1 foot you will be using bullet conectors to conect back when done

the first step is to get the element free from the glass using a razor scraper put a drop of oil on both sides of the blade then carfuly get under the element the oil will help desolve and make the process eiser after you have gotten it started you can use wd40 or some other oil wd40 actualy disolves the glue holding the plate to the element

next you can try to get all the glue off of the element i have tried several things to do this wd40 does deslove most of it but then i used what i had and the only other thing i found that worked is colman fuel probably gas would work or the other thing that i havent tried is brake fluid you will find that brake fluid is the best paint remover if you have ever worked around your brakes and noticed any leaks from the stuff it will eat all paint off of everything it touches

it is not important to remove all the old glue if you are putting papper on it just make sure that any thick chuncks are off

if you clean all the glue off then you can just put it back together with no paper

my elements have heat problems yours might not

then take a piece of paper and spray with 3m spray glue and atach the element then cut around it the heat elements that i have removed also had a problem of over heating in the center the paper acts as a insulator and helps spread the heat more evenely

then take a paint can and paint the paper this will stiffen the element and make it more managable and also the heat sink compound will not soak into the paper

when putting back together place the heat element under the sensor and put heat compound on the top of the sensor this will give better conduction between glass and sensor

now hear is the problem i have found i have cleaned 2 beds and the glass is warped in the upper direction when they where turned over the hold down clips pulled the ends down and leveled the glass so it will take some creative leveling to get printing again but it can be done just make sure that you check the clearance at the highest point which now is the center

you can now use both sides of the glass

to fill the chiped side make sure the glass is clean and use bondo glazing and spot putty

then dry sand with a realy fine emery cloth then clean with a wet rag you will not scratch

the glass if using fine emery cloth

this is the only thng i have found that holds up there is still a temp differance between

the glaze and glass but with a good coating of your choice for printing it still hold and

does not chip again i use elmers purple school glue tried them all and this is hands down

the best

now that you have a removable glass now you can also try the hair spray thing i never

tried it because spraying inside a printer gets the stuff on every thing except the bed

this also lets you apply tapes eiser
