3D model description

This is a new X axis carriage designed to take 4x Igus DryLin RJ4JP-01-08 bearings (with dimensions 8x15x24mm). It uses 4x of the short 24mm length bearings because longer polymer bearings are harder to obtain, whereas the RJ4JP-01-08 is pretty easy to get hold of (and I had a bag of them to hand).

NOTE: before printing this, be aware that your x-axis end stop microswitch has to be mounted on top of the y carriage for this to work (on mine, the limit switch was originally mounted to the front of the y carriage, and I just drilled two holes in the top to relocate it to the top instead).

This is part of my continuing quest to make this cheap junk CTC printer work properly. It has made an absolutely massive improvement! The original printer used some 3D printed sleeves with a small brass collar inside them, and used cable-ties to tension it. That was a really terrible set up, so I first tried replacing with some spare LM8LUU bearings I had, but that caused loads of play in the x-carriage, and it was really noisy. This new set up with the Drylin bearings has completely eliminated that and made a massive improvement in print quality.
