3D model description

This is my spinner design for the 3DLabPrint Spitfire MkIX RC model aircraft.

In my opinion, the spinner (and the propeller) plays an important part in the general scale appearance of a model, and for some reason, the spinner designs of 3DLabPrint models are not up to my taste, hence I design my own spinners for their models.

The outline of the spinner and basic details are designed using Monforton press book as a reference.

This spinner was initially designed for Ramoser Varioprop 12C three-bladed propeller. However, within time, fellow modellers in RCgroups forum requested from me to modify the design to fit their specific setup and the number of files and combinations has increased since then. Currently, three and four-bladed spinners are available for both 12C and 16D varioPROP propellers. Moreover, a design was also made for Graupner 15x8 three-bladed propeller, which I suppose would fit in any other conventional 3-bladed propellers as well.

So overall, different propeller shaft diameters and backplate skirt lengths are available to cover different motor/propeller setups. If none works for you, drop me a note and I can make necessary modifications to fit your setup. Can't promise on the timing though :)
If you need a specific modification, please let me know the following measurements of your setup:

-Prop shaft diameter (to adjust the backplate hole diameter)
-Distance from the front of the prop washer to the front of the fuselage (to adjust the "skirt" of the backplate)
-The thickness of your propeller at the centre (To adjust the location of the propeller cutouts of the cone)
-The chord of your propeller blades at approximately 30 to 40 mm distance from the centre (To adjust the size of the propeller cutouts of the cone)

Printing and assembly:

I prefer to print them all in 0.15mm layer thickness with a 0.4mm nozzle. Backplate does not need any support or brim etc. For the spinner cone, I add supports and 3 mm of brim, as the initial bed adhesion is critical for printing the cone. Please note that there is a very small area that is in contact with the bed and this makes the print prone to breaking off especially at the early stages where there are separate individual parts. When these individual sections meet at the top of the propeller cutouts and the print becomes a complete circle, you may go and sleep in peace :)

I've split the backplate into two parts, this simplifies printing but requires post-printing assembly. Print both parts with their flat surfaces against the print bed. After printing, glue the two parts together. It is best to align both parts on the motor shaft or another metal rod with the same diameter. This will guarantee that the parts are concentric and will not be out of balance. I prefer using medium CA glue to glue the parts together.

The spinner cone is attached to the backplate using 3mm countersunk screws.

When installing the propeller, do not overtighten the prop nut, as this may squeeze the backplate too much and distort or break it, causing wobbling and balance problems. Just tighten the nut secure enough and everything should work fine.
