Realistic Cicada

It happens once every 17 years. Cicadas by the billions emerge from the ground as large colorful adult insects with huge wings and bright red bulbous eyes. The noise they make is LOUD, as much as 100 dB. This is the year of their emergence in the eastern part of the US. This is a lifelike model of a cicada. He will need painting, but you can get this model to commemorate the summer of 2021.

For a realistic scale, make the length from the mouth parts to the end of the wings about 85 mm.

Orient the model in a vertical position with the wings pointing away from the build plate. One of the photos shows the insect in this position. To reduce weight and conserve resin, make the model hollow. 2 mm wall thickness.

Use light supports, 30% density. Manually place two medium supports under the two mouth parts. To allow drainage, bore 2mm holes at the top of the body and at the bottom near the mouth parts.

Use black resin, or a different color, and give it a coat of black spray enamel. The other colors seen in the photo are brushed on artist grade acrylic paint.
