3D model description

This includes two models: one, to finish off a hole you've drilled in your house's otherwise pristine walls to route Ethernet cables through them, and the other, to finish off a hole that you drilled by mistake in your otherwise pristine walls.

Both are sized to fit a hole made by a 3/4" spade bit in drywall, which seems like a decent minimum size for pushing an RJ45 plug through a wall with enough room to move. If you're running bare cables and crimping on the plugs later like a professional, you can get by with a much smaller hole, so these won't be right.

(Pro tip: Drill a 1/4" hole first, because it does less damage, and you can insert a handy inspection camera and find out that this particular wall is filled with loose stone and wire mesh nogging while the hole is still small enough to spackle conveniently.)

For the cable plug, print two, place them around the cable, and push into the wall, as pictured. I thought about gluing the halves together with cyanoacrylate glue, or gluing them onto the wall, but so far they've just stayed put so I think I'll move on to more interesting projects.

For the simple hole cap, print, shove in place, and pretend it never happened.
