ABOUT THIS 3D MODEL

Babylon 5 encompasses not only breathtaking sci-fi adventures and inter-species wars but also profound love for every character and spaceship that make up the complex canvas of its universe and turn it into something special. Among them is, of course, the majestic White Star warship that helps the Interstellar Alliance hold the line against the ancient race of Shadows and other hidden dangers in hopes to foster peace.

It is no secret that our contributing 3D modeller was fascinated by the magnetic pelican-like design of the White Star-class ships that he was willing to recreate on his own. The author put a lot of work into perfecting the elegant flowing lines of the White Star 3D Printing Model, as well as the authentic fractal patterns embellishing the ship’s hull. Seems like the White Star model is just about to create a jump point to appear on the build plate of your 3D printer!

ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING

White Star for 3D printing is a static assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took Gambody team 40 hours in total. For you to receive the cleanest 3D printing result possible and to minimize the amount of filament needed for generated support the spacecraft model was divided into many assembly parts, e.g. its cockpit, thrusters, wings, “fins”, beam and neutron cannons, twin fusion cannons, etc. are provided as separate STL files. Also, special tunnels throughout the ship were prepared for you to light up the Babylon 5 star.

All assembly parts are provided in STL files of FFF/FDM version in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and that the 3D printing beginners won't face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. When downloading any model's file you will also receive "Assembly Manual" for FFF/FDM 1.0 and DLP/SLA/SLS 1.0 versions in PDF format. We highly recommend that you get acquainted with the “Assembly video” and "Assembly Manual" before getting down to the White Star model.

The model is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model's scale was calculated from the length of the White Star which is 475000 mm. The 3D printing model's chosen scale is 1:700 for the FFF/FDM version and 1:1400 for the DLP/SLA/SLS version.

VERSIONS' SPECIFICATIONS

FFF/FDM 1.0 version features:

  • Contains 48 parts;
  • A printed ship is 152 mm tall, 318 mm wide, 680 mm deep;
  • Assembly kit includes lock 43_Ge_lock_10H_x35 to connect parts securely without glue that needs to be printed 35 times;
  • Highly-detailed exterior of the craft with authentic patterns;
  • Model is made hollow for you to introduce LED wiring and light up the "eye", "nose", "neck", wing edges, thrusters, and "tail";
  • spot to hide the battery is provided inside the main body ("in the belly area");
  • Additional hull parts with the added lid for easy access to the battery;
  • Glass elements on wing edges and on the tail were separated to be printed with transparent material;
  • Made with a special two-piece platform for you to conveniently display the ship among the Space Ships fleet;
  • All parts are divided in such a way that you will print them with the smallest number of support structures.

DLP/SLA/SLS 1.0 version features:

  • Contains 28 parts;
  • A printed ship is 76 mm tall, 159 mm wide, 340 mm deep;
  • Highly-detailed exterior of the craft with authentic patterns;
  • Model is made hollow for you to introduce LED wiring and light up the "eye", "nose", "neck", wing edges, thrusters, and "tail";
  • spot to hide the battery is provided inside the main body ("in the belly area");
  • Glass elements on wing edges and on the tail were separated to be printed with transparent material;
  • Made with a special two-piece platform for you to conveniently display the ship among the Space Ships fleet;
  • All parts are divided in such a way to fit the build plates and to ensure that support structures are generated where needed.

Cura printing recommendations:

These are basic settings that were tested in Cura 4.8.0 slicer. 

The test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality CR-10S Pro V2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS 3D printers with PLA and PETG filaments.

Disclaimer: The following printing settings are a recommendation, not an obligation. The parameters can vary depending on the peculiarities of your 3D printer, the material you use and especially the particular assembly part at hand. Each part that any model comprises often needs preliminary review and you are free to tweak the settings the way you find suitable.
