Knight of Gotland

Gutnish knight, late medieval / renaissance era.

The island of Gotland has a long and colorful history. It has, at different times, been a possible place of origin of the Goths, a prominent and independent member of the Hanseatic League, a contested domain of both Denmark and Sweden, a haven for pirates, a fiefdom of the Teutonic Knights, and very nearly the headquarters of the Knights Hospitaller following their expulsion from Malta.
This kit contains model parts allowing you to make a knight miniature (2 variants) with a number of signifiers relating it to Gotland. See detailed list below.
Recommended scale is 40 to 54mm scale. You can print the model at 28mm scale, but some details (particularly face and coat of arms) will suffer.
Printing at sub-28mm scale may result in model parts being too delicate to print properly.
All model parts are prescaled to roughly 54mm scale. Some minor assembly (using glue) is required. See image gallery and detailed list below for further information about model parts.

DETAILED LIST

Kit contains the following model parts:

1 Body leaning on treasure chest, opening the lid with a military hammer. Shield stuck in sand nearby Armor is late 16th century Greenwich-style armor, with some fanciful touches of Maximillian/gothic style armor (especially the spiked poleyns). Decoration on shield is the coat of arms of Gotland since at least 1280. Model part includes a base.

1 Body leaning on treasure chest, holding a halberd. Same as above, but with a different weapon.

1 Shield. One shield decorated with the coat of arm of Gotland. Can be used with any miniature of your choosing. Please note that the shield straps might interfere with the miniature if you choose to mount it on either arm. You can fix this by modifying the shield slightly with a scalpel post-print.

5 Heads. 1 bareheaded, 1helmeted (sallet), 1 with the helmet pushed back to reveal the face, 1 helmeted with a goat's head decoration, and 1 with pushed-back helm and goat's head decoration (see image gallery). The face is loosely based on Christopher Polhem.

1 Rauk rock formation. Can be used as a standalone tabletop decoration. The rock formation is based on the rauk "Coffee Kettle" ("Kaffepannan" in Swedish) on Fårö, Gotland.

1 Rauk rock formation on a square beach area. Larger, 2-part version that can be used as a standalone tabletop decoration, for dioramas et cetera. Please note that this model part is experimental -I mostly did it to practice modelling water. Consequently, this terrain model is somewhat lacking in quality. You can use it if you want to, the knight works without it. See image gallery.

1 Sheathed Sword.

1 Small Round base .

Intended for print in 28-54mm scale.
Models are all prescaled to approximately 54mm scale.
Relatively high printer settings are recommended (0,08 mm layer height, 20 percent infill).
Printing time depends entirely on hardware, selected size, selected model(s) selected settings et cetera. A rough estimate is 3 hours printing time for a single model (body+head+base) at default scale.
