3D model description

Happy 4th of July
Celebrate Independence Day with this festive sign. I designed this to print in layers with a Palette/MMU or single extrusion with a couple filament swaps.

Bonus! Back without hanging loop also included. Make a sign that could stick to a wall. Or use adhesive magnets for different options.

This is shown in four colors, but the outline on top is optional. The large star is its own model since I wanted to use different settings for that than the little stars on it.

See notes in 3D Print Settings for additional printing details.

Hanging Signs Collection

3D printing settings

Sign is approximately 190 x 196 (181 no hanging loop) x 3 mm.

Align the model origins to have everything fit together properly then group items and move as needed to fit on print bed. I printed with 0.25 mm layer height.

NOTE: The sign in most photos is my first print and it is 100% solid using solid top and bottom layers for each model. It is somewhat heavier than I would like, so I also printed new versions with lighter infill settings as described below.

Bottom (Blue): This model is included with and without the hanging loop. I printed this solid (4 layers).

Big Star (White): This model is 0.5 mm thick. I wanted to print it with a different process than the tiny stars. This star is printed solid (2 layers). I recommend using the most opaque filament you have, if you plan to use a light color on top of the dark background.

Little Stars w/ Text Support (White): This model is 1 mm thick. It has the support needed for the text merged with the little stars. To make the stars solid and have the text support as infill for less weight, I set 6 perimeters with 0 top and 0 bottom solid layers along with 20% infill. There are 4 layers for the text support (all infill) and then the stars are just 2 layers, all perimeters.

This worked and a closeup is pictured at the end of the photos. However, the little stars as only perimeters did not fill in as solidly as I wanted.* So, I created two new files that separate the little stars from the text support in order to set different processes for each.

Little Stars Only: 1 perimeter and Concentric External Infill Pattern.

Text Support Only: 2 perimeters, 0 top and 0 bottom layers, 20% infill. (This prints as infill only along with the perimeters.)

This created an even lighter model that printed faster than above. I'm much happier with this result.

Text (Red): This model is 1 mm thick. I printed it with 0 bottom layers, 20% infill, 1 perimeter, and 2 top layers (4 total layers). Note: Perhaps 3 top layers would help make it a bit more opaque.

Text Outline (Black): To create the outline effect, I used the "Text Top Layer" model a second time. I raised it up 1 mm (z offset of 2.5 mm) and scaled it in the z-direction by 50% to make it 0.5 mm thick. I printed it with 2 perimeters, 0% infill, 0 top and 0 bottom layers (just 2 layers of 2 perimeters). Outline is optional for the design.

No raft. No supports.

*Last two photos show the stars up close with my printing results. The first one shows the perimeters only and the second one (last photo overall) shows what it looks like when printed with one perimeter and concentric infill.
