3D model description

When I found "trisection of a cube" by Erikjuh, I clearly wanted to design mine under openscad.

After few iterations here is the result as a customizable "twisted puzzles factory".

Just download the code and open it, you'll see how powerfull openscad is. You can, if you prefer, use the customizer to build your cube. (see instructions)

I found theoritical help

- in this very interesting paper from Carlo H. Séquin CS Division, University of California, Berkeley: Prototyping Dissection Puzzles with Layered Manufacturing (http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~sequin/PAPERS/2012_FASE_Dissections.pdf).

- and, of course, in G. Hart's Homepage (http://www.georgehart.com/) and screw-puzzles !

3D printing settings

The customizer allows to modify 3 parameters:

- the size of the cube

- the angle you have to twist the last piece to screw it inside the other ones

- a clearance value which is the size of the gap left between pieces

Don't be afraid if the displayed piece under customizer window looks uggly, The generated object will be perfect ;-)

printing is easy. I made mine with PLA, sliced with slic3r, honeycomb 3D infill, 2 perimeters walls, hot end diam 0.5 mm layer height 0.2 mm.

With an edge of 3 cm and 0.2 clearance, I had to sand the pieces. Therefore I set the default values in customizer. to a gap of 0.4mm but this will depend on the accuracy of your printer.

(picture of the green cube shows an exagerated gap value of 2 mm)
