3D model description

A simple system to hold spools of thread along with matching Bobbins in batches of four. A custom fix for loose threads, things getting tangled and an overall mess inside your storage.

Designed for Husqvarna Viking Bobbin size, but also works with Janome Bobbins (likely others as well). Each thread holder can accommodate four small to med spools with one or more bobbins underneath. Three large thread spools can be stored in the large grid system "plates" comfortably, and empty bobbins can be stored in the bins and bobbin holder "plate."

The system was designed with a customizable grid to hold each 4x spool holder in place in a drawer, but the ring handle on each holder also allows use on pegs or hooks. Reinforcement of the Handle was slimmed to fit a larger variance of spool sizes but is still plenty strong in PLA.

The IKEA ALEX Drawer Unit was the inspiration for dimensions and the full layout pictured fits the unit's 15cm tall drawers (Spool holder is 97mm tall). Zero interference during full extension of drawer, the setup as pictured holds 80 Sm/Med and 6 Lrg Spool with matched bobbins in one drawer leaving space behind for more storage.

If you choose to use the grid, print the shapes required to completely envelope your spool holders in a configuration that fits your application.

To make it removable, I lined the drawers with cardboard and glued the grid pieces to that, using a spool holder to ensure proper spacing while the glue hardened. Took about 15 mins to glue it all up with super glue.

Nine (9) STL files.

3D printing settings

Infill: 10% (for post strength).

Other settings at your discretion. I printed PLA with a 0.4mm Nozzle and 10% infill and everything turned out well, no complaints.
