3D model description

Have and old tower fan laying around? put it to good use and convert it into a wind powered trickle charger.

build is pretty simple, the main body is printed in two half and glued together also has a supporting hole to glue a rod or bar in to keep the strength.

it holds 2 standard size skateboard bearing on each side and will use a tower fan blade up to 100mm

the housing for the motor is blank with no holes as different motors have different hole centres so you will need to drill them, also there is mounting holes on the housing but not the body as its printed I two halfs so didn't want holes in the bottom so you will need to drill them too

its designed for a standard 775 dc 12v-36v motor

once you have installed the motor and wiring there is a small cap to glue on the end to keep water out

you will need 2 flexible couplings to suit the motor and the fan shaft but I can imagine they are all different so buy to suit your fan.
mine are 8mm-5mm and 8mm-6mm the bearings take a 8mm shaft so you will need one that matches your shaft to fit 8mm

this design is far from perfect but works well.

MAKE SURE YOU BUY A SOLAR CHARGE CONTROLLER AS IF YOU HOOK IT UP TO THE BATTERY DIRECTLY IT WILL JUST SPIN AND YOU WILL LOOSE SOME FINGERS

3D printing settings

printed in pla at 200 with 60 bed and 25% infill with 4 walls. you can change to suit bit I would say more walls the better as it needs to be strong and put a decent amount of infill and walls on the motor housing as you will be drilling and bolting to it.
