3D model description

attention, read carefully before downloading !!!!

warning, read carefully before download

Hello, here is a tourniquet model designed to stop emoragies.

This product is not a toy, precautions for use are required. Please do not use this product without training.

This device has no approval to date, no guarantee of effectiveness is offered.

The model is constantly being improved based on the feedback I get.

no feedback = no upgrade

Printing parameters are very important, walls must be thick (10 walls in 0.6 for mechanical tests) or the filling must be 100%

At this time, this product can only be used for training.

The product has not yet been 100% tested and may have flaws. Therefore, you accept these imperfections and are aware that no liability can be incurred to the author.

In any case, you will see for yourself that the design and sizing choices are made in the most honest way it can be.

The material I used is PLA, this material is mechanically sensitive to external conditions such as moisture, so it is not the most appropriate.

A model is never totally finalized, I am listening to improve it according to your feedback and suggestions.

Starting point:

https://3dprintingindustry.com/news/glia-in-urgent-appeal-to-get-open-source-3d-printed-tourniquets-to-injured-ukrainians-205791/

This turnstile was designed and tested as an emergency medical aid in Gaza. It was designed to be 3D printed.

After testing it, I noticed several problems:

  • Overall strength problem, the maneuvering stick broke under heavy hand stress.

  • The locking requires the installation of a significant scratch

  • The assembly requires the installation of rivets.

Currently, a group of makers in the northern countries (Denmark and Sweden) are printing the following pattern:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/353354076713359/?hoisted_section_header_type=recently_seen&multi_permalinks=356377019744398

I have noticed several problems as well:

  • Using the same stick as gaza

  • Poorly designed locking piece as it cannot be printed in the direction that would make it strong, requires post processing work to remove the supports and generates material waste (scrap)

This design has obviously been approved by some authorities such as military or doctors, but I don't know which ones.

I have a big doubt about its solidity, therefore I proceeded to a redesign and resizing.

Data retrieved from the Danish makers :

  • Holding force in the lock : 20N (it seems very low to me)

  • Effort on the buckle : 900N , same, I don't trust their design because the only picture I could have is a buckle that holds 400N

Modifications to the Gaza model:

  • increase of the thicknesses subjected to stress

  • Modification of the lock to avoid the need to put a scratch

  • verification of the mechanical strength via 3D simulation

  • one-handed use

  • modification of the buckle to allow a tightening and a pre-maintenance of the efforts in order to limit the use of scratch to the strict minimum

  • implementation of seamless belt holding systems

  • use of standard lashing straps width 25mm (1 inch)

Mounting procedure in appendices, it is also not finalized, the plate "skin protector" is optional for now

good prints and above all, be careful, I repeat, it is not a toy!

Thanks to Yann Marchal for the help in the development, Christophe for being the most burned guy I knew, the makers who tested this product and all those who gave me a constructive feedback.
