3D model description

Insert for Merchants of the Dark Road, retail edition + Deluxe Player Boards, Metal Coins, and Sleeves.

Card holders and the commission tray can all go straight on the board. Commission tray will hold the mini expansion tiles as well.

This insert supports the deluxe player boards and markers, and metal lumi coins. It will most likely not be able to fit the deluxe resources without modification**. This will support sleeved cards.

I've taken great care to measure everything out. My current version results in about a 1mm lid lift. There's room to reduce the vertical height of most of the trays by at least 1mm, so this can be addressed if there's interest. Personally, I'm fine with it as-is.

Print one of everything, except for the files marked as x2. For printers with smaller bed sizes, I've created two halves of the base. Everything else should fit most beds.

The files are marked with what they hold. If there are further questions, please feel free to ask.

Colour coding chart:

  • Black - Meant to go on the board itself
  • Beige - Player pieces. Hand one to each player at the start of the game.
  • Green - Setup. These trays can return to the box after setup is complete. The dice tray can optionally be used to store the unclaimed illuminated (orange) dice.
  • Purple - Event card decks. Can be placed on the table, next to the board.
  • Blue - Each tray holds half of the goods. The wells are marked with the good that goes in each well. Coins need to be split between the two wells, with the 10-coins going in the large singular well, and the 1 and 5-coins going in the other wells.
  • Yellow - One well can hold the steeds (card or punchboard version). The other holds the companion cards. Both may be placed on the table, next to the board. The final tray is the resources tray. Each well is marked.
  • Red - This stays in the box. Player screens go in the lower well, and player boards (regular or deluxe dual layered) go on top. Note that the regular boards will not fill up the whole space.
  • Pink - Solo cards

Note that the goods wheel has a dedicated slot on top of the commission tray, so that it stays put. Place the rulebook on top of the insert, followed by the gameboard pieces, to better facilitate vertical box storage.

Bonus: I've added two designs for holders for the Dark Market, and Ruins of Yin markers. Instead of moving the marker around the quadrants, I prefer to place this marker in the middler and rotate it such that the arrow points to the active region. For best results, print this in a matte black, or perhaps a stone-like filament, to look good on the board.

** If this insert interests you and deluxe resource storage is a must, contact me and we can find a solution.
