Arcane Knights of Osterath
The Arcane Knights of Osterath, a magical order of knights that have many duties throughout the lands of Ardyn. The Order of Arcane Knights operates out of the Southern province of Ardyn, Osterath.
Each knight is gifted with at least a basic understanding of the arcane arts. One of their duties throughout Ardyn apprehending rogue spell casters or dealing with magical threats. The intricacies of magic are not known to regular guards or citizens, so the Arcane Knights are summoned when magical threats appear. Their basic understanding of magic is usually enough, but the more powerful or high ranking knights understand how to counter spells and dispel magical effects.
Another duty of the order is to gather the magically gifted. Sorcerers in particular can be quite volatile without proper guidance. When a family or community reports someone suspected of magical gifts, they send a knight to bring them to their academy within their keep in Osterath.
The order offers the magically gifted a relatively calm place to stay for their years of training. For the safety of others (and themselves) the magically gifted are trained to harness and control their powers. This training also includes basic noble education in law, diplomacy and history. More importantly they are also given martial training. Altogether the years of training helps bring a sense of discipline and purpose to a once volatile life.
However, once their training is over and they have proven to no longer be a danger to themselves or those around them - they are given a choice. Join the order as a knight or leave the academy.
Those that join the order can help people that were once in their position, live a life of low nobility and help those in need. The world is full of things magical in nature and most are unequipped to deal with such things. The Knights of Osterath balance their arcane and martial skills so they are prepared for any threat.
