Update 2023/01/04

I wish you all a happy new year!

With this mini update, I added a simple clip for the pole to attach buoyancy bodies, like cork.

Use the clip as shown in the picture to ensure that the cork cannot escape upwards.

Via the number of clipped corks you can achieve zero buoyancy and floatation state.

Happy floating!

Update 2022/12/18

Some of you ask me for a version which is more compatible to none metric systems. So I have added some additional versions of the same tools etc.

Standard version (metric)

The standard version uses a pole with 15mm outer diameter of about 350mm length. By default the hole in the tools and in the mounting plate is set to 16mm.

Why am I doing that? The 3D printing process is not as precise as wanted, so in normal conditions the 16mm hole tends to be smaller. I wanted to be sure that the pole fits and can be easily removed.

If the 3D print is perfectly exact, a 5/8 inch pole maybe fit, 5/8 inch=15,875mm

Angloamerican (us) version

I have added a new version called 'us' version.

The hole for the pole is now 16.875mm - best for 5/8 inch poles.

As in the standard version it is 5/8 inch + 1mm to ensure, the pole can be removed easily. All tools are now available as us-version, so the 5/8 inch pole should be fine for them.

Update 2022/09/12

Retrieval hook added - springs ensure that hook closes automatically

Material:

1x 3D print of the universal payload holder

2x 3D print of adapter - used to attach the tube

1x aluminum tube, outer diameter 15 mm

3D print of any tool or attachment

Various screws, nuts and washers (see photos)

Why this project?

The accessory parts from Fifish are very expensive and you also don't have that many options for tools.

So I designed a generic plate that can be a base for any tool.

I started with three tools:

  1. clamp (thick and thin)

  2. Fishing net (not for fish, but for all other kind of stuff)

stainless steel wire, 2mm, net is an old net from a scoop

  3. Holder for rescue hook on a recovery line

  4. (NEW) retrieval hook with automatically closing clamps

    You need 4x M3 and 1x m4 screw

Assembling retrival hook (new)

  • drill the holes to ensure fit of screws

  • setup M3 screws, which hold the springs first

  • fit additional M3 screws to ensure that the clamp won't break, if strong forces are pulling on each single clamp

You can use this retrieval hook in two different ways:

Mode 1. Attach the hook with a M4 screw to the holder tube. Pull the main yellow fifish line to retrieve things grabbed by the hook. Be aware of max weight for pulling the main line.

Mode 2. Attach a long line to the hook and do not use the screw to fit it ot the tube. After grabbing a thing, you can undock the hook and use the line to pull it for recovery.

Be aware of this

With this equipment, the ROV becomes heavier, i.e. more power is required for balancing than before.

This reduces the operating time of the rov. One of the next enhancements will deal with the possibility to be able to attach any kind of buoyancy bodies. Depending on the equipment, the hovering state can then be restored.

In addition to that, I will design a non electric bottle gripper for clean up purposes.
