3D model description

45 degree bank HALF STRAIGHT compatible with Scalextric slot car track
The word β€œhalf” is used with reference to the fact that a full length straight of Scalextric track is 350mm long. This design is half that length.
Two Variations - one for magless racing, one for magnet racing. The variation designed for magnet racing has grooves for gluing in steel wires before you stick on the copper tape.

  1. Choose MAG or MAGLESS version. Print one or more half straights.
  2. print and glue the top edge pieces to the half straights.
  3. (for MAG version only) glue steel wires** into grooves.
  4. connect half straights and 45Bank Curves and transition units using dowel*** pins for accurate location.
  5. fasten them with cable ties (zip ties).
  6. stick on adhesive backed copper foil****.
  7. connect to your Scalextric track.
  8. Start Racing!

Feel free to print this or print it and sell it - I give permission for that. But please don't give away the .stl files.

The radius of the turn is Scalextric R4 (r = 526mm). The photo shows off-the-shelf R4 inner borders fitting the curves.

3D printing settings

Designed to fit on a Prusa i3 printer.
Print volume: 250mm x 210mm x 210mm high

0.3mm layers should be fine for the magless variant, but I'd be going to 0.2mm layer height for the mag variant because the 'grooves for wire' need a finer rendering.

** For steel, I use 0.9mm diameter gardener's tie wire from the local hardware shop.

*** For dowels I use 3mm x 3mm square stainless steel - cut to 12mm lengths.
