3D model description

The MCon system:

A modular design system based on ball joints that has been carefully optimized for 3D printing through numerous iterations.

  • Variable and individually fixable angles and lengths

  • Enables the production of customizable structures (even retrofitted) for small to medium loads.

  • Optimized for 3D-printed components and cost-effective standard materials (M2/M3 screws, optional: aluminum tubes 12x1 mm and 8x1 mm).

  • Gooseneck-like flexibility allows almost free positioning of e.g. light sources, cameras, soldering aids, various holders, measuring instruments, laboratory equipment and much more.

  • Connecting elements allow tilt angles of 60Β° with a rotation angle of 360Β°, special elements allow tilt angles of up to 210Β°.

  • The clamping force of the elements can be continuously adjusted from freely movable to rigid.

  • Aluminum struts can be extended to double the length and optionally fixed in length, or telescopic friction can be adjusted.

  • The elements allow cables up to 6 mm total diameter to pass through internally.

  • Various adapters for mounting on surfaces or furniture by means of screws, clamps or magnets, as well as for mounting, for example, LEDs, terminals, fans, USB sockets and others.

Other elements and adapters are currently under development.

This model includes:

MCon System | Basic Y-Adapter F-MM

Y-adapter for attaching 2 elements to a base or for later splitting an arm into two separate arms, e.g. for soldering aids, LED lights or similar.

Further needed:

Materials:

  • M2x16 screws (DIN-EN-ISO 4762) - (1 piece per element)

Tools:

  • Hexagon bits/screwdrivers

3D printing settings

Most elements can be printed without special settings and support structure ("support"). For elements with obvious overhangs (e.g. Y-adapter, 6-way connector or similar) please use support structure.

Works well in PLA+, but I recommend using PETG.

Print upright on the largest flat section of each model (usually the bushing), use of a "brim" is recommended for initial testing. If the print bed adhesion is sufficient, a "skirt" is often sufficient.

If problems occur, reduce printing speed if necessary, increase model cooling and/or minimum time per layer.

I have printed at up to 60 mm/s, minimum 80% fill, 0.4 mm nozzle and 0.2 mm layer height.

For maximum stability, I recommend setting the number of wall lines, or the "wall count" to, say, 100, so that the element is printed "solid," without any fill/"infill."
