3D model description

Note: You may be interested in the Working Stargate Mk2 model, which includes the top moving chevron. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1603423

Well, working to a point that is.

In theory (I haven't tried printing these parts) this model should create a stargate of approx 42cm in diameter. Including the base approx 49cm tall. The inner ring should hopefully rotate and there are small spaces behind the chevrons for leds, maybe small ones.

If someone puts a stepper motor on this and links it up to a control unit (pc or arduino) you could have a gate which actually dials.

Note: This item is intended for personal use only.

Edit June 2016. Since the Mk1 and Mk2 Stargates are slightly different sizes. If you like the SGC style ramp for the Mk2 Stargate, you can use the SGC Ramp for Working Stargate Mk1 http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1603663

3D printing settings

If you want to try this model I suggest doing some test prints. This is all theory based, I haven't confirmed it actually works.

There are 31 files in total. You shouldn't need to print all 31 are some depend which option you choose. Some of which need to be printed multiple times which will create a lot of parts.

= The Stargate =

All the files for the stargate are in 'stargate.zip'.

== The chevrons - there are three options. ==

Which ever option you choose you will need 9 x A's and 9 x B's

'sg-top-1-(a/b).stl' - These top pieces don't have space for LED's.

'sg-top-2-(a/b).stl' - These top pieces have space for a centre LED only. You will need to print 9 x 'sg-light-1.stl' in a lighter, more transparent material.

'sg-top-3-(a/b).stl' - These top pieces have space for three LED's. One in the centre and one either side.. You will need to print 9 x 'sg-light-1.stl' and 9 x 'sg-light-2.stl' in a lighter, more transparent material.

== The middle - there are two options. ==

If you want a complete stargate without the base then print 9 (18) x 'sg-middle-1-(a/b).stl'.

If you want to connect to the base (or your own base) print 8 (16) x 'sg-middle-1-(a/b).stl' and 1 (2) x 'sg-middle-2-(a/b).stl'.

== Lower ring ==

9 x 'sg-inner.stl'

== The back ==

No options here. Print 9 (18) x 'sg-bottom-1-(a/b).stl'

The file is called bottom because the gate was designed laying down!

== The ring ==

Don't glue the ring to the stargate, or else it won't rotate! If my calculations are correct the ring pieces should create a gear which works well with the base gear.

The ring is broken into 10 pieces for ease of printing. Print 1 of each ring piece 'sg-ring-(1-10).stl'. They are arranged in a clockwise direction. Although in theory you could place them in any order.

= The Base =

All the files for the stargate are in 'stargate_base.zip'.

'sgb-bsl.stl' and 'sgb-bsr.stl' are the left and right pieces of the base. You'll have to make the stargate with the base.

'sgb-sl.stl' and 'sgb-sr.stl' are the left and right side panels of the base.

'stb-base-gear.stl' is the gear of the base.

'stb-parts.stl' include the handle, rod, and two guides for the rod.

Good luck to anyone daring enough to try this!!
