3D model description

Strut Dust Caps have been specifically designed to securely fit and remain on the front strut towers of E36s, as depicted in real-life pictures. These caps not only provide a stylish appearance but also serve as protective covers to safeguard against dust and debris.

When you make a purchase, you will receive several design options, including a blank slate, M3 Logo, BMW Badge, and both side and front profiles of an M3 E36. Please note that I plan on updating and including the BMW logo as I am not quite satisfied with it yet. Additionally, I believe the Side M3 E36 wheels can clear the offset and fit, but I have not printed it for testing. Please let me know if you would like me to update it.

The design is a 3-piece model, intended for multiple colors for the base, cover, and logo/icon, respectively. The cover provides a snug offset, enhancing the appearance of the logo/icon. The logo/icon is printed on a thin base. If you prefer to print it in a separate color for each shape (e.g., M3 Logo), you can split it from the base, then print and glue it accordingly.

By utilizing these design elements, you can customize the appearance of your Strut Dust Caps with different colors and create a unique and personalized look.

3D printing settings

Importantly, due to its proximity to heat within the engine bay, it is worth noting that PLA, while remaining sturdy, may begin to warp the design over time.
To ensure optimal performance and durability, I would recommend printing the Strut Dust Caps with ABS, PETG, or any filament that offers higher heat resilience.
I recommend utilizing an infill setting of 20% to strike a balance between print times and material usage, ensuring sufficient strength while avoiding excessive consumption of print material. It's worth noting that higher infill percentages do not necessarily result in linearly increased strength; instead, they can enhance flexibility.
By selecting a 20% infill, you can achieve a suitable combination of strength and flexibility for your printed object. This setting helps optimize print times and material usage without compromising the overall quality.
For support removal, I suggest utilizing a 10% support infill. However, it's important to note that the ideal support infill percentage can vary depending on the specific printer being used. As a general guideline, 20% is considered a standard infill setting.
Most settings are entirely printer dependent. Prints were conducted at a speed of 60mm/s which last around 8 hours.
