3D model description

This carriage is designed to replace the printed carriage and the acrylic glass plate at once. Which allows to lower the heatbed by 30 to 50 mm, gaining height for printing objects.

WARNING: Not for printing but for cutting/milling (eg. acrylic glass)

WARNING: Not tested yet

Other benefits

  • less tolerance in heatbed positioning
  • easier moving of the carriage than with 4x LM8UU (hopefuly)

Some dimensions:

  • Distance between Y-rods: 100 or 150 mm
  • Belt mount: M3, any size: 10 to 12.5 mm or 17.5 mm
  • Heatbed Mk2 mounted with 3x M3 screws, distance 209 mm
  • Holes are either 4.5 (KSTM) or 3 mm (others)
  • Total size: 229x229 mm (theoretically ;)

If you mount the the rods with 150 mm distance, you will:

  • be able to mount the motor inside the frame (not my invention). I added additional holes for the belt mount, so you can move the motor 11.5 mm from the center if it collides with the Y-rod mount.
  • gain fewer tolerance from warping of the Y-carriage

TO-DO

  • does it collide with anything?
  • how to mount the Y-end-stop?
  • will the motor collide with the plate if mounted inside the frame?
  • define screw length
  • draw Y-rod mounts for 150 mm distance
  • add a mount for a cable chain

Updates

  • Added holes for different size belt clamps: 10 to 12.5, 17.5 mm (did not update renderings)
  • Added nut holder for KSTM bearings

3D printing settings

Requirements:

  • MendelMax 1.5, not sure about other versions.
  • Heatbed Mk2 or newer which has an additional hole to mount the heatbed with 3 screws

You will need to buy:

Length of screws and standoffs depend on the thickness of your carriage plate and on the amount you want to raise the heatbed.

You will need to print:

  • 2x belt clamps any size (10 to 12.5 mm or 17.5 mm)
  • maybe 3x clamps which hold the nuts for mounting the KSTM-08 (to be drawn)
